Free GS1 2D Barcode Generator
How to generate a usable GS1 2D barcode
This generator creates GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR, Data Matrix with a GS1 Digital Link URI, and QR Code with a GS1 Digital Link URI. Start with a valid GS1 primary identifier, choose the symbol for your scanning scenario, then download and test the result on the final material.
What data do you need?
A primary identifier such as a valid GTIN is required. Add a batch, serial number, expiry date, or another qualifier only when it belongs to the intended use case. Sample GTINs are for testing, not for identifying products placed on the market.
QR Code or Data Matrix?
A QR Code with a GS1 Digital Link URI is the practical choice when consumers need to scan with a phone. Data Matrix is more compact and suits controlled workflows with compatible scanners. Confirm the capabilities of the point-of-sale system before rollout.
How should X-dimension be set?
X-dimension is the width of the smallest module in the symbol. The generator shows the physical print size and warns when the chosen value falls outside the GS1 reference range. Final size still needs verification for the material, printer, and scanner.
From identifier to test print
- 1Choose the primary GS1 key and enter a value with a correct check digit.
- 2Add only the key qualifiers and attributes needed for the product or process.
- 3Choose the symbol type and review the encoded data and human-readable interpretation.
- 4Set the X-dimension and download an SVG or PNG file.
- 5Print the code at its final size and test it on the finished package with the devices used in practice.
